Travel Information

Getting there

New York City is served by three major airports:

John F. Kennedy International Airport is located about 15 miles east of Manhattan.
Newark Liberty International Airport is located about 15 miles north-west of Manhattan.
LaGuardia Airport is located about 5 miles east of Manhattan.

Getting around

Avoid using your own car in Manhattan (unless you have a very good reason). Public transportation inside the city is convenient and inexpensive. Finding a place to park your car, on the other hand, is typically expensive and always inconvenient.

You can find on the Internet many "general purpose" guides for getting around Manhattan by subway , by bus, or by taxi. The official maps, schedules, and rates for the subways and buses can be obtained from the MTA web page. Traveling between the conference hotel on Broadway & 77 Street and Columbia University on Broadway & 116 Street can be done by either:

Subway ($2 each way). Take subway line #1 between Broadway & 79 Street near the hotel and Broadway & 116 Street right next to the entrance to Columbia University.
Bus ($2 each way). Take bus M104 on Broadway between 79 Street and 116 Street.
Taxi (no more than $10 each way, including tip). Going from the hotel to Columbia, it is better to catch a taxi on Amsterdam Avenue than on Broadway. (Get off at Amsterdam & 120 Street and walk west on 120 Street to the back entrance of the Schapiro Center.)
